The sailing season

Welcome to the 2019 sailing season at Nantwich and Border Counties Sailing Club, a very busy program which I hope you all find has something in it for every member of the club to enjoy. A brief explanation of the various events planned to help with your enjoyment of the club during 2019 follows.

Working Parties

These start the season and are a way in which members can help the club by mucking in to get all those maintenance jobs done, painting, cleaning Jetties, replacing racing bouys etc. Participation in these events can be claimed against next years membership fee.The first working party is on Saturday 23rd Feb 2019

Racing Program

The club runs a full racing program starting in early March with pursuit races and finishing in mid December with the Frostbite series there are both scratch and handicap trophies to compete for and a real chance for everyone to be a winner. All members are very welcome to join the Sunday afternoon racing scene, exciting, exhilarating, sometimes fast and furious sometimes slow and frustrating but always fun. There are 4 fleets at the club all represented on Sunday afternoons, the 2 handed GP14 class, single handed Laser and Fast Fleet of Solos. Enterprises etc  and a Menagerie fleet that sees Mirror dinghies, Comets, Topper and Firefly racing around the pond in 3 races every Sunday afternoon refreshments are served in between races, each race lasts about an hour.

Saturday Leisure Sailing

Come and enjoy the water and the surroundings on Saturday afternoons from the 27th April, we have a fully equipped kitchen and club boats that can be hired for a small charge. A safety boat is on the water from 14:00 – 17:00 hrs and races for new helms and novices are organised during the year

Wednesday Evening Leisure Sailing with Pursuit Races

Wednesday May 1st sees the start of the evening Leisure Sailing with the added bonus for those with a competitive spirit to take part in pursuit races. These are races that take into account the speed of each boat class using the Portsmouth Yard Stick. Slower boats start first, faster boats later the objective being to see where the boats are after a 20 min period of chasing each other . Also a great opportunity to get a bit of informal coaching and ease your way into racing. A safety boat will be on the water for the evening.

Ladies Who Launch

On Thursdays from May 2nd the water is available to any female members who want to sail, a great opportunity to hone skills and share experiences. A safety boat will be on the water for the evening.

Dodd Squad and Leisure Sailing

Dodd Squad is all about coaching our junior members, a great session focussed on developing skills learned in the RYA Learn to sail RYA 1 & 2 courses. Juniors can get race training, learn seamanship skills in a safe and encouraging environment.

GP14 Open Meeting

As part of the Midland Bell Open series of races the club has the honour of hosting one of series Open meetings. GP14 sailors from surrounding clubs will be at N&BCSC on Sunday May 5th for a day of racing. Any club member is welcome to participate, only GP14 boats though allowed on the water, in 3 races against the best GP14 sailors in the area.

Friends, Family and Captains Day

This is a new event combining elements of the previous Captains Day and Friends and Families Day and will be held on June 29th.

Further details will be announced later.

A packed program organised and supported for our members by our members, a focus on Racing, Leisure sailing and fun and something for everybody. Of course what is mentioned above is only part of what the club does, in the first edition of the Doddington post there will be more information covering all of the training, sailing, powerboat, day skipper, first aid as well as the busy social calendar events .Don’t forget it all kicks off with the first working party on Saturday 24th Feb, it would be great to see you then.
