Learn to Sail

Start Sailing Course

This 10 week program consists of 5 full Saturdays to provide a short introduction to sailing for novices and 5 short weekend or evening sessions to help you hone your skills and  knowledge. Tuition will be given by trained instructors and the students knowledge and ability will be assessed on a continuous basis. On obtaining the RYA level 2 certificate, the successful sailor will be safety conscious, have a basic knowledge of sailing and be capable of sailing dinghies without an instructor on board in light winds. The club has a fleet of GP 14’s for training but we encourage students to use there own boats.

Youth Sailing Course

This 10 week program consists of 5 full Saturdays to provide a short introduction to sailing for 8 to 16 year olds and 5 short weekend or evening sessions to help you hone your skills and  knowledge. Knowledge and ability will be assessed on a continuous basis by the instructors. The course has four levels of achievement. The successful sailor will be safety conscious, have a basic knowledge of sailing and be capable of sailing small dinghies in light winds. The club has a fleet of Picos and Toppers for training but we encourage students to use there own boats. The course may be used as part of D of E, GCSE PE and Scout Awards. Seamanship skills, Sailing with Spinnakers, and Start Racing courses are aimed at the more experienced sailor.

Improving your Sailing

Interested in learning to race so that you can maybe start to join in with the Sunday racing at NBCSC ?  Then our Start Racing Course could be just what you need. Run by our own club’s Racing Instructors, who are trained and qualified by the RYA, this course covers in 2 days all you need to know to begin racing.  This course is designed to give the confidence, skills and knowledge to take part in club racing in good conditions. The course involves the sailor in a range of enjoyable exercises designed to build confidence and improve skills through practice. RYA Powerboat and Safety Boat courses are also run to assist the main activity of the club by providing safe competent drivers for the rescue boats which accompany sailing and racing at the club. The club is registered to deliver RYA shore based courses including first aid and has recently run a successful cruising course, a VHF SRC course and a Day Skipper course. Powerboat Level 2 Course

This is a 2 day course.  Course details are available on Powerboat Training Courses .
